Life with a 2yrs old kid

Feels like my son has changed completely. Looking back at pictures when he has a few months old or around 1 year and I can barely recognise him. He has started to be independant and now we can hardly reason with him. Maybe it’s just my perception. Was I this way? I get a humbling feeling and wonder how my parents put up with me.

His language and speaking abilities have improved. I often ask him questions so that we can start a conversation. What is your name? His response is something like Me/Mine. Then I tell him his name and he acknowledges it with a smile. Where is your home? To my surprise he knows the direction even from a lot of different places, he even knows how to go the closest store.

Some of his best answers to my questions are something like “No like” for when he doesn’t like something and “No want” for when he doesn’t want something. Which is often.

He loves to watch cartoons on the phone. We try to limit it but it’s the only time he’ll stay put for more than 1 second. He’s also taken a like to the green color and will show us everything green around us. All the other things are not-green. And if you didn’t know that, he will repeat it 1000 times over and over. Slowly he learns other colors but he loves green. Maybe because it’s spring and everything around is greenish.

He’s a daredevil. He likes to speed his little motorbike and has no regards to safety. He’s also developing mechanisms for dealing with frustration. It’s not uncommon for him to hit objects with his fists, and if we’re around – even us. While his hits are more like pokes, do watch out for your eyes. I did see a few green stars accidentally.

Kids have one job – to get into trouble. And we really have one job too. To get them out of trouble. Knowing this might give you a breath of fresh air. Acceptance that this is the way. The way of a parent. And if other parents managed to survive this, so can you.
